Student Design Awards 2020: Retail Design Talent

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

For the past few years, our Founder & Creative Director, Lloyd Blakey, has been a mentor for the annual Student Design Awards.

These awards are a great way to inform and inspire the next generation of store designers by setting live briefs in partnership with major retailers and brands.

Last year, six colleges entered the contest, tackling briefs from three retailers. Working with Interior Architecture students at the University of Huddersfield, we were thrilled that one of the Huddersfield finalists achieved a ‘Highly Commended’ with a well-conceived, innovative concept for Costa Coffee. You can read more about their success here.

So we are naturally hoping for another Huddersfield winner this year! The journey is well underway on the 2020 brief from outdoor wear brand Berghaus.

We’ve completed an exciting first stage of ideation by the students and are about to shortlist the top ideas – always a difficult task with so much budding talent!

Once selected, the Huddersfield finalists will start the process of further developing their concepts to get them ready for judging by the Retail Design Student Awards panel, which sits in early April. The winners will then be announced on the opening day of the RetailExpo at Olympia London.

So join us in wishing all the students the best of luck and watch this space for news of how they did.
